The story
For a short Singapore stay after 26 December 2026, contactless pay-as-you-go is a practical starting choice if your itinerary has relatively few rides or mixes basic public transport with services outside the Tourist Pass. Frequent train and basic bus travel may favour the Singapore Tourist Pass, but compare your actual journeys before buying. Stored-value EZ-Link is a third option, with an upfront card cost and balance requirements.
Prices and conditions were checked on 14 October 2026. The announced fare adjustment was not yet in force that day, and current Tourist Pass prices are not guaranteed for travel after 26 December.
What will change on 26 December?
The Public Transport Council has announced a 7.0% overall fare adjustment. That does not mean every journey will cost 7% more. From 26 December 2026, adult card fares will rise by S$0.12 for journeys up to 3.2 km and S$0.13 for longer journeys; adult cash fares will rise by S$0.20. These specific increments are more useful for visitor budgeting than the headline percentage. See the PTC announcement.
Singapore uses distance-based fares and permits up to five transfers within one journey. Count journeys and their distances when comparing costs, rather than treating every bus or train boarding as a separate fare. The Ministry of Transport explains the fare structure.
Contactless or stored-value EZ-Link?
Contactless AMEX, Mastercard, NETS ATM and Visa cards, plus supported mobile wallets, can be tapped directly and use regular adult fares. This avoids buying a separate travel card or arranging stored-value top-ups, according to the Ministry of Transport. Your bank's foreign-exchange or other card charges remain a separate question; the supplied official guidance does not establish what your issuer will charge.
A SimplyGo EZ-Link card sold at listed ticket offices or service centres costs S$10: S$5 stored value and a S$5 non-refundable card cost. At least S$5 balance is required before use. It suits a traveller who prefers a separate stored-value card, but involves managing that balance. Foreign-issued credit or debit cards are not accepted for top-ups at specified SimplyGo kiosks, so check the available top-up method before relying on one. See SimplyGo's card guidance.

When does the Tourist Pass make sense?
SimplyGo currently lists the Singapore Tourist Pass at S$17 for one day, S$24 for two days, S$29 for three days, S$37 for four days and S$45 for five days. It covers unlimited train and basic bus travel. It excludes premium and niche services, including Sentosa Express, RWS8, Night Owl, NightRider, Chinatown Direct and express buses.
The strongest case is an itinerary with frequent covered rides throughout the chosen period. The pass also offers cost certainty for those rides. The objection is itinerary-based: a stay centred on a few destinations, or with substantial use of excluded services, may leave too little covered travel to justify its price.
There is no supported universal break-even ride count here. Distance and transfers affect pay-as-you-go totals, and the PTC announcement does not provide a complete post-change route-by-route fare table. Nor does it explicitly confirm that the current Tourist Pass retail prices will remain unchanged on 26 December.
Compare the journeys you will actually take
List your likely train and bus journeys, identify any excluded services, then compare the applicable journey fares with the pass price available before travel. For EZ-Link, include the separate card cost. For contactless payment, check your issuer's charges. Recheck prices and conditions before travel after 26 December; Tourist Pass sales are limited to selected locations and kiosks, with availability not guaranteed.
The S$122 Adult Monthly Travel Pass is not a normal option for an ordinary foreign visitor: the required Adult Monthly Travel Card is available only to Singapore citizens and permanent residents. See SimplyGo's eligibility rules.
